Tree of Life, Painted steel and aluminum, sited at Cortez Park, Phoenix, AZ. A Public Art Project commissioned by the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture. Each of the sixteen 56” x 48” panels are cut from 1/2 inch steel plate and powder-coated in metallic silver. Geese, A Turtle, a Trout and a bicycle-riding Sunfish represent an imagined interpretation of the City’s wildlife and the linkage between the flora and fauna of the City. Located next to Cortez Lake and the Canal, water is the unifying element in the Tree of Life. This assortment of creatures creates a walk-by gallery of park life and touches on the relationship between the water, plants and animals that intersect at 35th Avenue and SRP Grand Canal.
